Who are the sphinxes

When at one of the exhibitions for the first time shocked cat lovers appeared a graceful, devoid of hair, a cat, with big ears, huge eyes and an incredibly mysterious, mystical look, many thought that among them by some miracle there was a deity worshiped by absolutely all the inhabitants of the Ancient Egypt – from the Pharaohs to the common people. There is nothing surprising in the fact that the new breed of “lunar” cats was called the Sphinxes – in honor of the giant Egyptian lion, which from time immemorial has been protecting the sleep of the ancient pharaohs.

In total there are seven breeds of hairless cats, three of which appeared as a result of a natural mutation – these are the Canadian and Don sphynxes, as well as Kohon. In the last century, there were ancient hairless cats of the Mexican breed, but the last of them died in the thirties of the last century, after which all attempts by breeders to recreate the breed did not bring success.
