Sphynx cats

Representatives of the cat family are traditionally associated in humans with furry purring animals. However, such a standard perception is not a rule without exceptions. In the diverse world of kitties, there are persons completely devoid of hair. A vivid example is cat sphinxes. The mysterious and bewitching appearance of a bald cat with large ears is often compared to the famous stone statue of the Sphinx. The first mention of unusual domestic animals can be found in Egyptian drawings and letters. Hairless cats with a majestic posture were obligatory companions of the pharaohs and were considered sacred animals. Centuries later, their trace was lost in history, and only in the 20th century did they reappear in human life. Since the 60s, breeders and breeders began to pay special attention to the breed of naked cats. Fixes took pride of place among thoroughbred lines and are recognized today by all the leading felinological organizations. Description of sphinxes The absence of hair in bald cats of this species is due to the recessive gene, which, as a result of artificial selection, was able to be fixed in the genotype. To date, the general line of sphinxes is divided into three types: Canadian Don Petersburg. All three groups have both common features and individual characteristics. Cats without hair still continue to be the subject of breeding research. Scientists do not stop in their work. This is eloquently indicated by the results of their work. At present, it is already possible to talk about the appearance of new varieties: the Ukrainian levkoy, elf, Minsk and others. Experts predict them great popularity in the world and independent existence as a breed. At the same time, sphynx cats are characterized by a certain set of common features. Body The elastic and muscular body of sphinx cats is of medium length. The chest, stomach and back of the body are rounded. They can be called light cats: body weight is about 5 kg. The long tail, flexible and tapering to the tip, resembles a whip. The limbs of the Paws of the “Egyptian statuettes” of medium size are proportional to the body. In this case, the hind limbs are slightly longer than the front. As well as the body, the paws are equipped with strong muscles, allowing the purrs to show speed and dexterity. Head The shape of the head resembles a medium wedge slightly elongated in length. Well-defined cheekbones have a noticeable pinch. The nose of the sphinxes is straight, the transition from the forehead to the nose is characterized by a stop. In the appearance of thoroughbred pets, huge ears stand out, before which a certain flattening of the skull is noticeable. The open, straight-set auricles have a wide base. The inner part of the ear is completely devoid of pubescence. The eyes are also large in shape resembling a lemon. The standard allows for a different color of the iris. Skin The breed of cats without hair is characterized by high body temperature. This feature compensates the animals for the complete absence of a warming coat. There are noticeable folds on the skin. Color can vary in different combinations of shades and does not affect the definition of the breed.
