Canadian Sphynx – the most unusual looking cat
Canadian Sphynx Hairless cats undoubtedly attract attention with their unusual, exotic appearance. The huge popularity of these animals is not accidental. Sphinxes – artificially bred breed for decorative purposes. The causes of hair loss in the ancestors of these exotic cats are not clear, it is believed that this is some single mutation that the breeders supported by crossing bald cats with short-haired counterparts. At the moment, the breed is in the process of formation and does not have common standards.
In addition to its unusual appearance, the Canadian Sphynx has many features that distinguish it from short-haired and long-haired counterparts.
If you take the sphinx in your arms, its body temperature will seem elevated. And there is. Normal body temperature for cats of this breed is 38-39 degrees. In kittens above – up to 42 ° C. This is a normal temperature for all feline, but because of the coat, we do not feel it.
Sphinxes are considered the ideal pet for people allergic to wool. But here there are pitfalls – before you get this animal, you need to make sure that the specific sweat and saliva of the animal will not cause allergic reactions.
Another feature of this breed that distinguishes it from other cats is that the sphinxes sweat with their whole body. Sweat has a special, characteristic odor and when dried, it becomes light brown. If the animal does not bathe for a long time, it feels like the cat is covered with a sun tan. The disadvantages of this feature are obvious – all the places on which the animal sleeps remain in brown stains.
The lack of hair on the body of the sphinxes contributes to the fact that all deviations in weight (thinness or excess body weight) are very noticeable. With obesity, a pronounced fat bag on the abdomen, deposits of fat on the withers, hips are noticeable. Therefore, the physical condition of the sphinxes is assessed more categorically than the condition of fellow having wool.
Oddly enough, skin with a large number of folds does not need special care. Representatives of this breed can easily tolerate cool indoor temperatures, but prefer to sleep in warm places. The color of the sphinxes can be the most diverse. Breeders especially appreciate symmetrical spots on the animal’s body.
Sphinxes are not afraid of water. Therefore, swimming is not fraught with difficulties and stress for the animal. The only thing that scares cats is the inability to determine the boundaries of the surface of the water, due to its transparency.
Canadian sphinxes are distinguished by friendliness and affection for the owner. If ordinary cats do not always like to be touched and stroked, then the sphinxes simply die from the caresses and stroking of the owner. At every opportunity, these cats try to jump into their arms to get a portion of human attention. These cats prefer to sleep in the master’s bed, pressed tightly against the owner. If you are impressed by such annoying feline attention, then the Canadian Sphynx is your animal.
