How to care for the sphinx?
But still, the vast majority of sphinxes are completely bald, so you need to carefully monitor the temperature in the room. Drafts and dampness must not be allowed, otherwise the cat may catch a cold. Normal for these cats can be considered normal room temperature – 20-25 degrees. Sphinxes are very fond of basking in the sun. Being in the sun for a long time, a cat can tan, and its creamy skin will turn into chocolate. But to allow a cat to receive such a dose of ultraviolet radiation is by no means impossible. The delicate skin of the sphinx, like human skin, can get a sunburn. Heat-loving sphinxes can burn their delicate body near a hot battery or fireplace, so watch them carefully, as if you were watching a small child. If it’s cold at home, you can even dress the sphinx in a warm jumpsuit. Usually bald cats don’t mind a warm suit, and some just love to dress up! As these cats sweat, they should be bathed regularly in warm water with a mild baby shampoo. By the way, they are very positive about this procedure. They bathe the sphinxes about once every two weeks. Some cats of this breed even know how to swim, which they willingly demonstrate when they are washed in the bath. Water procedures will bring a lot of positive emotions to both the cat and the owner, but during bathing, carefully watch that the water does not get into the cat’s ears or eyes. Ears of sphinxes are not protected by wool, therefore, as they become dirty, they must be very carefully cleaned with a cotton swab slightly moistened with water or liquid paraffin. It is also necessary to carefully trim the claws so that the cat does not scratch itself. Claws are trimmed with special nippers, biting off only the very tip. Some cats do not need to cut their nails, as they do it themselves. My cat almost every day independently bites its claws with its teeth. Sphinxes require a lot of energy to maintain heat transfer. Therefore, they always have a good appetite and they need to be fed a lot. You can feed with special ready-made food. But it is better if the nutrition of the sphinx is natural. Of course, the pet’s diet should be balanced and include all the necessary substances. The better the nutrition for your cat is selected, the healthier it will be. On cold days, it is necessary to increase the degree of caloric intake so that the sphinxes do not freeze. A complete diet should include a sufficient amount of protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. The source of protein in the diet of cats are meat, fish, cottage cheese and other dairy products. Meat is the most valuable protein product. Sphinxes should be fed lean beef or chicken. The meat can be both raw and boiled. But never give a cat boiled bones – their nutritional value is zero, but they can provide a blockage of the intestines for a long time. Refuse pork, if you do not want your animal to have health problems. Be sure to include fiber in your pet’s diet – boiled carrots, beets, zucchini, cauliflower. Do not forget about the grass. All this is necessary for cats for good digestion. Of dairy products, cottage cheese should occupy the first place in the cat’s diet, since milk often weakens. In the morning, instead of cottage cheese, you can give kefir or yogurt, especially if the cat is overweight. Grated cheese is useful in a small amount; it is added to vegetables and porridge. Make sure that the cheese is not spicy or salty. If milk does not cause digestive problems in a cat, it should also be present in its diet. Eggs are a very nutritious product, but raw protein is poorly digested, it is better not to give it to a cat. Yolk is given once every 5-7 days, preferably with fish. If given more often, you can spoil the cat’s liver. Fish should be given boiled and not more than once or twice a week. The source of vitamins in the cat’s diet are vegetables and herbs. Considering that cats do not chew food very carefully, it is better to give raw vegetables and herbs in grated or shredded form in a mixture with vegetable oil, adding to meat food. Many cats willingly eat boiled pumpkin, which also has an anthelmintic effect. Raw or boiled sphinx vegetables should be accustomed from an early age and make sure that this habit is not lost, as adult cats are more finicky in eating. Vitamins and dietary supplements with good nutrition and good health, the sphinx is not needed and even harmful, because it can disrupt the natural balance of vitamins in the cat’s body. They can be given only as directed by the veterinarian and in strictly limited quantities. Sphinxes are very smart and sociable. Playful and mischievous, they remain until old age. This cat really needs a game partner, and if you can’t devote much time to the sphinx, it might even be worth a few animals. These cats are very friendly and make easy contact with other pets. Two Don Sphinxes live at my friend’s house.
